#EdoDecides: Don’t disrupt collation of results, INEC warns political actors 

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday warned political actors in Edo State against disrupting the collation of gubernatorial election results. 

The National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna stated that, despite tensions and protests reported at INEC’s headquarters, the collation process will proceed as scheduled in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.

Haruna condemned the actions of some political figures, which included a recent threat to INEC’s office in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area that led to a stampede and injuries. 

He reiterated that lawlessness would not be tolerated and emphasized that mechanisms are in place to address any complaints during the collation process.

INEC assured that accredited party agents, observers, and media representatives will have access to all collation centres, and called on security agencies to maintain professionalism as the results are finalized.

“We are similarly disturbed by the overnight presence and  demonstrations by some political actors and their supporters at our State Head Office ahead of the commencement of final collation. These actions are uncalled for.

“Nobody should disrupt the process at any stage and no one will be allowed to benefit from lawlessness.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the collation of result will proceed as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 and our regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections,” he said.
