EFCC arraigns man for N14.9m fraud in Gombe

The Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned a suspect, Habu Gambo, on a one-count charge of intent to defraud and fraudulently obtaining N14.9 million.

The arraignment took place before Justice Mashkur Salisu of the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The charge against Gambo alleges that between November 2020 and February 2022, he fraudulently obtained the sum of N14.9 million from Sanusi Gado under the pretense of investing in the grain trade.

The EFCC claims that Gambo’s representation was false, violating Section 1(1)(b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act, 2006. The offence is punishable under Section 1(3) of the same act.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Gambo, also known as Abubakar Gambo, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, S.E. Okemini requested a trial date. However, the defense counsel, Sale Abdullahi, filed a bail application, which was opposed by the prosecution, citing the defendant’s prior breach of administrative bail conditions.

Justice Salisu ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Jalingo Correctional Centre and scheduled the trial to commence on February 20, 2025.
