Edo 2024: Adamawa Governor accuses INEC of violating Electoral Act

Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of violating the Electoral Act during the Edo gubernatorial elections. 

At a press conference held at the PDP’s campaign headquarters on Sunday, Fintiri, who chairs the party’s campaign council, alleged that party agents were denied access to collation centres, which he claimed undermined the transparency of the electoral process.

Fintiri clarified that he did not announce election results but instead presented figures from the party’s collation agent before INEC disrupted the process. “INEC should be accused of violating the Electoral Act, not me,” he stated.

He urged INEC to adhere to its own rules, stressing that the Resident Electoral Commissioner should not be announcing results or moving the collation to INEC headquarters.

Fintiri concluded by stating that the party would consult further on their next steps regarding the situation.
